Goods to follow and shipping questions
 

We landed last year and are finally making our move now our house has sold. Trying to sort out shipping but have a few questions....

Daughter 1 and I are landed PR and completed a goods to follow list which we gave to immigration when we landed.

Hubby and daughters 2 and 3 are Canadian citizens, so hubby needs to do goods to follow list for when we return.

We are shipping about 10 boxes - no furniture.

I take it we will have to pack and separate for each GTF list, but they can go as one consignment? We will also possibly have a few last minute things and things we will require soon after arrival, so will probably go airfreight / excess baggage - will it be okay having the goods on the GTF lists arriving separately?

We have had a few quotes, and some have stated the goods will need to be signed for at port of entry - is this only for air freight? The shipping quotes are for door to door, so I assume that the shipping company deal with customs and that they have computerised records for the goods to follow lists that we present on our arrival?

Is it a problem not having an address where we are going? We know which city, but will be in some form of temporary accommodation until we find somewhere to rent.

Any advice /experiences would be much appreciated.

Yes they can go as one consignment.
Goods being shipped will qualify as either Settlers Effects or Former Residents of Canada.

On arrival the goods will need to be cleared either by yourself or a Customs Broker or Courier rep.
This will mean getting hold of the Manifest or Air Waybill from the shipper.
You then take that along with your landing docs and list of goods to your local Customs Office if clearing them yourself. Once Customs releases the goods you are free to pick them up yourself or have them delivered.
Check with your shipper as a lot of them dont arrange the clearance of goods.
