Good day, everybody!

Hi.
Im new here...in fact I was told about this forum only ystrday by a friend!

Im pretty sure the question Im about to ask you wise people has probably been asked before, but I havent been able to find it!

Cut it short....I forgot to check my wife's and my PR cards before leaving...we left Toronto two weeks ago and are now touring Europe...all very nice, but not so nice when I realised our cards expire in December 2014!

We wont be back till at least after the new Year and have just realised they will probably not let us through when we get back without a valid PR card.

What can we do at this late stage, pls?

We have our original landing documents still, as well as Ontario driving licences and health cards, as well as our UK passports.

Its not getting back into Canada that is the potential problem its the airline refusing to let you get on the plane. If flying with a major airline on a UK passport then chances are you won't be refused.
Application for a Travel Document (Permanent Resident Abroad)

CBSA might question you on return but will admit you as a PR. Your problem is with the airline. Very few cases if any of an airline refusing to board a UK passport holder.
