"Glaswegian"
I guess life is what you make it!!
I'm sure everyone who is serious about Canada will do there Home work!! We lived in Alberta for 2 years (work bought us back) we intend going back 2005/6 Depending on "the wait" for Immigration. We saw it can be hard! but there is work there !! So why are you being so negative on here? If you haven't anything godd to add THEN DON'T We all learn by little mistakes! Moving isn't a choice taken lightly so let people follow there dreams !!!!!!!!!!! Ted |
Re: "Glaswegian"
Please, what a pointless post. Glaswegian has been here and done that. If his post come across as negative its through bitter experience. There are far too many rose tinted posters here, personally I am glad Glas shows the other side of life, and I am really glad he is back posting after his break. If you dont like his posts, then use the ignore user feature.
Far too many people make uneducated decisions based on fantasy (read the returning to UK forum sometime!), so a dose of reality here is a good thing in my opinion.

Re: "Glaswegian"
i dont get what the title of the thread has to do with the post.
i made a similar post awhile back about negativity.. but after some reflection, it was the way i was interpretting things. i think all views should be shared, regardless of whether or not people agree with them. |

But to be rude and insulting NO!! re post "Canada news" Yes i read Canada news and take the tit bits it gives but to suggest its full of "whites" is a little too much. After all this site goes on about Canada being a multi- cultural place!! When was the last time some of you posters seen the UK? we live in a sleepy village in the South, every town and city in the UK now has a varied and mixed culture!! Posts so negative aren't good for this site!! Yes please tell people how hard it is away from the UK, how hard insurances can be to get or what people miss just to list a few! But to be on a site for so long and get so negative? perhaps some people should get away from there PC and get out a little more often? Ted |

I don't think I ever said it wasn't ... my gripes are with the immigration experience. There's also nothing wrong with dreaming about a new life ... just be aware that there are bumps in life's highway ... emigrating adds a few more that you might not expect ... that's my take home message." |

I'm into my fourth year in Canada ... I haven't looked at Canada News since 2000/2001 ... once I'd been here for a few visits, I didn't find it that useful a source of information. What I was trying to work out was how someof the posters I've seen could get the impression that Canada wasn't multicultural and to paraphrase (please note: not my own view, don't flame me) the situation with non-white immigrants is much worse than they admit. You two spent two years in Alberta ... the place isn't exactly over run by "yellow hordes" and there aren't line ups of foreign immigrants with outstretched hands grabbing every bit of government grant that they can grab ... but there is a whole bunch of people from various countries all working damn hard for a better future for themselves and their children in Alberta. So rather than taking a pop at me in open forum ... which I didn't initially respond to ... as you're still in the UK, please explain how someone who lives in the UK and reads this forum can come away with the impression that Canada isn't multicultural? To other posters: any chance we can keep this objective and avoid the descent into another "why racism is a very bad thing" thread? Optionally, we can just let it lie and talk about which alcoholic concoction it would be best to welcome the New Year in with in true Canadian style :D Should auld acquaintance be forget ... you guys have a Good Year no matter where you are or what your skin color may be ... that goes out to everybody. |

 Hell... what am I saying.... Sorry. He is Scottish so he does not count. Not for one minute did I believe that Braveheart was true. No way can this Kilted Northern Git put to the sword so many ENGLISH (actually French) nobelmen. Ohh ..nearly lost the north south plot. PS. If he pisses me off all of the first para is nul and void!!!! |

Re: "Glaswegian"
[QUOTE=SANDRAPAUL]I have taken 10 months to realise that although he (Glaswegian) comes across initially as a gloom and despair merchant - he actually makes sense. When we first applied I did not want to hear one bad thing about Canada. I took it personally and felt I was being persuaded 'in my own head' that Canada was the wrong direction. But he was right and I was wrong to say what he said, post what he posted and argue what he argued was rubbish. Not because he is more intelligent, more wise, more all seeing. Because he did it and wants to share his feelings.
Please McGrouch is difficult enough to live with now....telling him that he's wise, intelligent more all seeing....will inflate his head to the point where we won't be able to live with him anymore!!!!! |

Moving isn't a choice taken lightly so let people follow there dreams !!!!!!!!!!! Ted I think you guys ( Karen and Ted ) should actually take some time to read the past posts from GLAS. I am sure you will find them all very informative !!!!!!!!! I have found him very knowledgable in any subject that anyone brings up. He may come across a wee bit on the negative side, but HEY !!!!! Why not be a wee bit negative, it brings us folks down a peg or two knowing that Canada is not the land of milk and honey and the sun does shine out its arse now and again. So GLAS keep it up matey as it does keep ME on a level playing field during my research into my move to Canada. I appreciate your posts, your coments, your advice etc etc and I am not sticking up for my Glaswegian neighbour !!!!!!!! Hope you all had a GREEAAATTT New Year COS I DID and I still have the soor heed to prove it !!! Eddie who had to many    |
