Glasgow plumber moving to canada
Hi guys, just recieved my LOI this week for IEC and i'am getting ready to come out to canada end of september..I will be staying wit my aunt and uncle in st catherines for the first few weeks till i get something more convienient.I have spoke to a few recruiters by email and phone and they have indicated that i wont have much of a problem getting work as i have said i'am willing to travel anywhere in canada for work.
.Has any other plumbers moved out recently and managed to find work? .How easy is it to get my plumbing, heating and gas qualifications transfered to canadian equivilent?(i have 5years of experience since completing apprenticship in U.K) .Should i leave tools in u.k and just buy whole new set out there? .Are the plumbing systems in canada alot different to the ones in uk? Very excited and nervous at the same time about coming out,any info on any of questions above would be much appreciated... Thanks Laird |

Check on the province you are going to for transfer you usually need to sit exam or courses.

Re: Glasgow plumber moving to canada
Hi! We are also looking into this as my husband is a plumber here in the Uk.
We tried some of the red seal practice questions yesterday and it looks like he will need a bit of training to pass, as their terms/regulations are very different to ours! We are currently looking into getting books to help him read up on to learn it before we go. If we get anywhere I will let you know! |
Re: Glasgow plumber moving to canada
When you get yourself a job give it it a good 6 months or so to get used to the new names and materials that you will using over here, and also to study the National plumbing code book which you will be given a copy of during the Red seal exam ( 4 hours -125 questions ) and f****** hard to pass!,but you do get more than one go at it, but its $100 each time  As for tools bring your hand tools but leave behind your pipe bender and pipe slice as there 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch is not the same size as the UK 15mm and 22mm plus they dont bend pipe over here its lots and lots of 90s!

Re: Glasgow plumber moving to canada
Will the answers to any of the red seal questions be found in the plumbing code? just wondering how people are passing and being able to work -if working is the best way of picking up the answers?

Re: Glasgow plumber moving to canada
lots of answers are in the code book but you need to know it inside out to find them (quickly)! You can work over here without a plumbing licence for companies that have licenced plumbers but you won't earn top $ until you get your licence,Working over here before taking the exam will help a lot
