Glasgow Girl Moving to Vancouver

Hey Guys,

I am new to this Forum so apologies for any duplicate posts. I am moving to Vancouver this summer and am just looking for some tips:

Good places to rent / house shares / cheap as possible of course :)

Places I can watch the footie

Places to hang out and places to meet people

Job Opportunities

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi there,

Sorry, cant really give you advice on houses etc as have only been there on holiday.. Just dont rent / buy in the downtown eastside!
Makes Easterhouse look like disney land ha

What kind of job opportunities are you looking for? I presume you wont be going over as a 'skilled worker' visa?

Good luck

What's your budget? How far from downtown are you willing to be time wise. Will you have a car or need public transit? Check out Craigslist Vancouver for cheap places.

No idea about football

To meet people, if you're on your own I would personally join a club. Dragon boating, yoga, fitness, painting, running, etc.

What job ops are you looking for? Try Craigslist for that too

Hey thanks for the tips yeah downtown eastside seems to be a no go zone so thanks for that . I speak fluent German so an office based job would be what I am looking for . Thanks for your help

No problem.

See what Craigslist throws up for your budget and if you're unsure on areas or commute just ask away.

I'm not sure German will be a huge draw for an employer in most companies out here. French or mandarin could be though.

Are you coming over on a 1 year holiday working visa or some other method? If it's one year it might restrict the sort of office jobs that might be available - maybe temp translation work might be available.

Why would speaking German restrict you to an office job? I second the Craigslist suggestion btw.

There's a nice little cafe on Commercial Drive called Abruzzo Cafe that always shows football games, whether it be the premier league or other matches in europe. For meeting people there are some good sites like meetup.com. Everything else is covered by craigslist as others have said :)
