Yeah, when I moved here Saskatoon still looked cheap, but thanks to the collapsing pound it now looks expensive. Our house would be about 45% more in pounds than we paid for it.

That is why I moved away from working from Berkshire to SE Kent. I paid £180K for our house in Kent, where you would pay £600K+ close to the M25 for a similar house.
I also earn £18K more than when I worked in Berkshire, you do not get more salary in expensive housing areas.

Prices have gone through the roof since I landed around 6 years ago.
Still would be better off here than I would be back home though not by much anymore.
