Now the summer is here in the UK (and so are we still :curse, we broach the subject of outside furniture. Is it better to buy here and to take to BC (Okanagan). or to wait and buy there, which is the better quality and value?

If you decide to buy over here, then wait until the end of the season when they knock the prizes down to crazy figures - like from $700 to $150.

Personally I wouldn't bother bringing garden furniture over - the range out here is fantastic and decent prices too. Plenty of places to get it from, even the 'Big' DIY type stores are pretty good.

If you're bringing your own, used, garden furniture, tools, pots etc, you have to scrub them out and make sure they're absolutely sterile. Personally I don't think it's worth it as it's all readily available from places like Home Depot (read B&Q), TSC, and many of the bigger grocery stores.

If you've got space, bring them as its something else you don't have to buy when you get here.It all adds up. As for cleaning, we brought all of our garden equipment, rakes, shovels etc, just make sure they are clean and you won't have a problem.
We also bought a set of patio furniture when we got here as our yard was bigger than in the UK so now have 2 anyway!!

Agreed. In late summer, places like Rona, Home Depot and Crappy are almost giving the stuff away.

Exactly - and here in NS you only really need them at that point anyway! Buying them any sooner seems like your just throwing your cash away.

We had quite a nice garden set back in the UK but never brought it over. Once here, we had to buy a new set plus lots of extra chairs and side tables for guests and also because we have 2 decks plus lots of pool area too. We also have a couple of chairs on our porch.

Looking back - yes I should have brought my UK patio set over because we did take garden tools, step ladder, racking etc over from our garage anyway. I wish we had brought over our new wheelbarrow too because similar one was over $100 plus tax to replace - it all adds up!

PS I love our new zero gravity chairs with canopy and footrest
