Gaining the GED while on an open work permit.

Hi all, i am living in Toronto on a 2 year open work permit while my wife studies.I wish to write the GED here in Toronto to improve my job opportunities.I have started looking into this, but my work permit conditions state that "Unless authorized must not attend any educational institution or take any academic, professional or vocational training course.

I assumed that this meant i could not study at a college etc (i assumed wrong) at the moment i cannot write the GED even though im over here
(the Independent learning centre told me this)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get authorization to attend the course (i know that courses under 6 months don't require a study permit) the GED only takes 2 days, its crazy i am here with an open work permit legally entitled to work and i cant even sit a simple exam.
Any comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

P.S I have thought about calling CIC do you think this is a good idea ?

What is the GED?

I very much doubt you would need a study permit to do a 2-day course. Your WP restrictions are to prevent you from becoming a student instead of a worker. Honestly, I would just do the course and exam and not worry about it.

Hi thanks for your advice.
The GED is a high school equivalency certificate for mature people.(grade 12 general educational diploma)

I just took the test this past weekend in Stratford.
You should be able to take it as you are the one paying for it and secondly
it's not a corse that you will attend at the expense of a PR or CCitizen.

I could supply you a name of a guy who runs preperation courses and i beleieve he is the guy behind GED.
All they need for you to sit the exam is photo id, Canadian drivers licence or use your passport.

They do GED preperation courses, they might help.
It includes a huge GED book, loads of questions.
Or just go to Chapters and spend a little time going over it.
Nearly all questions are multiple choice.
