Default Furnace oil price jump

Last time I bought some oil for the furnace was a couple of months ago, price was $0.78 per litre.

When I phoned in my oil order today, the price has risen to $0.88/litre . Does anyone know if the price is expected to come down before the end of winter (or should I put in as much as I can afford now in case it's going to rise more)?

I've just ordered another 500l @ 89.9c per litre. Maximum pricing here is fixed by the Govt on a 2 weekly cycle. Like Iain I don't see it going down anytime soon but only can afford 500l this month!

When I put in the order last time, I took a look at the oil price trend and it seemed to be coming down, so I didn't order as much as I really needed. But it looks like that price drop never actually made any difference to the price of furnace oil (looking at this chart it just continued to rise).

When I bought my first house here just over 3 years ago, I recall the oil adjustment on the house purchase being a full tank at 58 or 59 cents. It's quite worrying, thinking about what it might rise to over the next few years (and I'm running out of consumption reduction options)..

Yep, I know what you mean. I remember it was 39c when we bought our place. Did take us long to figure out a new more efficient furnace would pay for itself pretty quickly once it hit 60c and up. No gas where we are, so oil was the only practical choice, I think we had 88% efficiency last time it was serviced.

All you can do is insulate the shit out of the place if you havent already.
