Hi, I am originally from Dukinfield and my brother lives in Denton. I have lived in Vancouver for the past 16 years. I'm a police officer.

It may help to know that house prices are coming down here. Not sure where you plan on moving to but the west coast of canada is experiencing a falling real estate market.

So at least any losses in the UK may equalize gains on this side of the pond.

Good luck

Hey, I'm from Hyde! If your house was in Hyde and you were thinking of renting it out, I'd probably be interested
Sorry to hear your struggles, but like the guy from Dukinfield said, what losses you'll get on your house there, you'll find a similar reduced priced house here...and Nova Scotia is extremely reasonable for house prices.
Good luck :)

Is your brother's name Jack Frost? He's a policeman and lives in Denton. He's been on TV a goodly number of times. A snarky old bastard!

I really feel for everyone trying to sell their houses at the moment and thank god that we managed to sell when we did.

Good luck to you all! :)

Small world, I was born in Hyde and lived in Newton near St Mary's church when I was a kid. My mother still lives in Dukinfield, just off King Street. I joined the Royal Navy and left the area in 1987. Dr SHIPMAN was my doctor when I was growing up!

I let the UK in 1989 and lived in the US- Miami/San Diego. I met my ex-wife in San Diego and moved to Vancouver in 1993. I never felt settled in the US and found Vancouver was an easier transition - Canadians are a lot like Brits - Yanks not so much so. I joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police about 9 years ago.

Moving halfway across the world has its plus and minus points, i personally have never looked back and have developed a profound respect for Canada and its people. There are no yobs over here. I have never felt threatened - unlike every weekend in Ashton or Stalybridge.

Being away from family has been difficult at times but you adjust. Somethings are better- some are the same and some are worse. It all depends on your own situation.

I should imagine that you could buy a terrific house in NS. I would consider renting, since the market had not found its bottom yet. Bearing in mind that prices have only just started to come down here.

Good luck

We get that show - A touch of frost - on the tv here. We also get corrie but are about a year behind. Gail just got pushed down the stairs here by her son.

Used to live on Lyne View with my grandmother - not far from Talbot Road. Have a pint at the King Bill for me!

I was in Red Deer last summer during an investigation. What a one horse town! We arrested a bad guy outside the Jackpot Casino.

Good luck

Ah no way! We once looked at a house for sale on that road! Don't really know the King Bill...but I have been in The Bay Horse quite a few times and The Rising Moon! My friend Oldbag on here also lived on Talbot Road!! Definitely small world eh!

Red Deer is ok....it's definitely my comfort zone in comparison to Edmonton or Calgary - way to busy and manic for me!

I was in the rising moon last year. I remember when it was literally in the middle of nowhere, now its surrounded by housing estates - the typical british ones where every house is the same as the next - too bad.
