Friendly newbies !!
 

Hi all ! Just joined up and wanted to post a lil' greeting.
We are a family of 4 (and the cats!) currently stressing a bit because we've been asked for all the docs by the Embassy ! We want to move to Ontario so if anyone has any tips and advice, or if you are at the same point of uncertainty, drop us a line. Loads of unanswered questions, like most people I guess.. :) schools, housing, etc..

We are not even there yet. Family of 6 from Normandy, we are making our first trip this summer to Quebec.

The forum is very friendly and full of advice, in fact all the senior members' keyboards will be exploding soon, answering all our questions!

Hi and welcome to BE you will find lots of help on here, If you haven't already read the WIKI pages above, you will find lots of answers on there, www.mls.ca for homes and schooling is on one of the links from Wiki or just google the area you want, Hope that helps and search any specific questions you have they have usually been asked before, good luck with everything

only one piece of advice i can think of - keep a photocopy of all forms and documents you send to CIC in a (relatively;)) organised folder. makes life a whole lot easier if you have all your information in one place.

hi and welcome! hard to answer questions without knowing where in ontario you're heading?! ontario's pretty big - from toronto you can drive 20 hours to thunder bay and still not leave the province!

We are looking at moving to either London, Kitchener, Hamilton or maybe the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) but nothing fixed as yet.

Difficult question ! a bit of both really ! They're not indoor cats, they go out into the garden now and then. Why do you ask?

The question is important because in Canada there are many wild animals, like skunks, racoons, coyotes and foxes that can and will kill, and eat , domestic cats.

Even in a large Canadian city like London, Hamilton or Toronto, there are many wild animals, who live in the forest spaces or river ravines, and they come out at night to hunt for food. If you let your cats roam outside the house , they are also subject to trapping ( with no kill traps ) by land owners. This is quite legal, and when caught in a trap, the cats may be turned over to the city animal control officers for keeping. After 10 days, if they are not claimed by the owners, the cats are killed by injection.

Many cities in Ontario have a annual licence tag system, for both dogs and cats. If the cat or dog has not been neutered or spayed, the costs are triple the normal price, for the municipal licence. Obviously, in Canada we have a different point of view about straying cats and dogs , than in the UK.

Our cat, Squeaky, has never been outside since she came home from the animal shelter where we adopted her, 2 years ago. No fights, no fleas, and no fear of being lost.
