French In Toronto

Hi,

Does anybody know if there are any free french lessons in Toronto??

I'm really eager to learn and I know that there are government funded classes in Quebec but wondered if there is anything similar in Ontario?

Thanks :)

I seem to recall a couple of signs about French Lessons on some doors.

But that was London.

The government program you are looking for is called "LINC", or for french "CLIC" IIRC. My wife used to teach English in it...

Not sure of availability in Toronto, as English would be the expected route. Worth asking though if you have a hankering to learn French.

Found this...not sure of relevance...

I looked into getting freebie French classes when I landed here.

When I read the small print, it seemed that if you speak ONE of Canada's two official languages already, you're not going to get free classes in the other.

A Bulgarian I know here who speaks fair English also tried to take French classes this way and was rejected on these grounds.

This may be an Ottawa thing, but worth checking out.
