Free calls to UK Landlines?
 

Has anyone come across a way to make free calls to UK landlines from abroad?

Skype is great but relies on the other person having Skype turned on and being nearby.

Free? No. But the plan I have with Rogers in ON., gives me calls to the UK for something like $0.02 per minute. This is quite an improvement over the rate when I first emigrated to California in 1977 when it cost $US13 for 3 minutes.

Just to put that in context, $13 was 0.1% of my annual salary back then (before tax).

You can get a Skype call package were by you pay a flat monthly fee and you can call landlines with Skype

I use Primus. 2 cents a minute to the UK on that particular plan.
I don't know of any freebies. Even Magic Jack doesn't work everywhere. My pal in Oakville, Ont can't call me here using one. It simply will not connect.

eh? I'm not techno genius but we use skype to call landlines/mobiles anywhere in the world regardless of the other having skype or not.

I call my brother in the UK (cell to cell) from Ontario for free using "Viber". Works great....we text each other and call each other regularly. NO CHARGES!

Note: Both of you have to have Viber downloaded to your cell/mobile.

I think we pay about £50 per year for unlimited calls to uk landlines with Skype. We also use FaceTime on apple products and viber, there are a lot of options if you have the technology. I think Skype is the only one that you can do to landlines

I use viber too, just bear in mind it's not completely free as it uses data, so it depends how much data the OP has on his mobile/cell package

I use Vonage as the home phone. It's a UK plan and included unlimited free calls to many countries for £10 per month.

i get them to call me , it doesnt cost me anything so therefore totally free:thumbup:

I use Vonage which is an IP phone system that works great and is inexpensive.

We normally use Skype as a video/voice call.
