Re: Fort McMurray,Google Earthed it
My bosses son works in the camps around Ft McMoney. He's single, early twenties. There solely for the money and the education. Signed on for 5 year apprenticeship, earns more than I do I suspect.
Certainly not a place to move to to raise kids by every account I've heard. A few people who were there before the boom might disagree. If you have a chance to visit before committing then do so. Even after 10 years here in Canada acclimatising, no amount of money would persuade me to live there year round, -40 in the winter in not something I could deal with, and a lot of the money you make could easily be lost in paying rent and living expenses on a family home up there. Its bad enough when 5 kids are sharing that burden together. Nothing is cheap up there, and the climate is brutal. People are making money, but like most goldrushes, it tends to be the ones in there first who do best. |

[QUOTE=Judy in Calgary;6544481]With respect, JET, I think that's bollocks.
Steady on Judy! I actually laughed out loud at your uncommon use of profanity!:thumbsup: Mrs M x |
