Footy in Toronto

Has anybody been to a Toronto "FC" football game? I've just learned about them from being on the "CBC" on the weekend. Any good, what's the atmosphere like, is it comparable to home?

I know my boys went to see Aston Villa play against Toronto. They commented it was a great atmosphere and met alot of fellow brits who live in Toronto who they are still in contact with and meet up regularly which is great to me that they have more friends from good old UK. Although I was shocked by the price of tickets being $250 each but they had to go as they were our home town team. Give it a try but you wont get the fights like back home!!

Being Charlton Fans, me and my worse half know a thing about football ! Apparently the atmosphere is good, nothing like at european stadiums though , there is not the sense of rivalry !

There is a huge waiting list for season tickets, we signed up ages ago in the hope that we get some for next season.

I've been to a game. Unfortunately it was a no score draw, but nevertheless the atmosphere was excellent. There's a supporters group called "The Red Patch Boys" who occupy one corner section of the stadium and lead the chants and singing and so on. They are quite creative.

Every home game ever (1.5 seasons) has been a sellout in the 20,000 capacity BMO Field... there's talk of expanding it by 50% next year.

As to the football standard in MLS, I'd rate it as bottom half of the Championship most of the time. Entertaining but by no means top class.

It's years since I was at a match in the UK, but considering that beer is sold in the stadium before the match and up to the end of the half-time, the crowd bad behaviour element is very small compared to what I remember in England (and come to think of it, in Germany).
