Food prices rocket in UK; is Canada experiencing the same thing?
Supposedly the average British family is spending £800/year more on groceries than 12 months ago and some things have more than doubled in price - I buy mixed corn for my chooks which was £4 a sack last year and is now £9.50.
So, for everyone living in Canada, is the cost of feeding your families/yourselves going up at the same rate or is it not so noticeable? And if prices haven't gone up so much why do you think this is?

It is all down to gas prices, as they increase so do all consumable retail items as they all use trucks to get their stock.

Yes, and as has been stated, much of the increase is down to the huge increase in transportation, production etc, in fact any process that involves the use of gas/diesel. Simply put, any increase in gas prises has an inevitable effect on the cost of virtually EVERYTHING else and is passed onto the consumer.

Well grain prices are up in part because of a changing diet in China and India - more meat is eaten and it takes much more grain to produce more meat (something like 5lbs of wheat produces 1lb of meat).
I do find it worrying that there have already been food riots in some parts of the world. I think it can only get worse as we live through peak oil times.

There was somethingon the news the other day about the amount of grain it takes to make that bio fuel stuff. Because it uses so much grain, it's pushing the grain prices up, therefore meat prices too.
Having very blond moment and can't think of the technical word for the bio fuel
