Hey Shelley, if you are around…….
what’s it like getting a GP in your neck of the woods and is there a way of choosing a particular doctor in a practice, say, if you want a female GP or a specific person ?
I’ve not had/seen a doctor whilst living in Quebec, so I have not gone through the process here. Also I get the impression that services and availability can vary between and within each province, so I was wondering what your experience has been ?

So is it like in the UK where you can register with a specific doctor, who is then ‘your’ doctor ?
I’m really wanting to avoid being allocated some random doctor each time I make an appointment. I could do with having some consistency and with a doctor I know that I can feel comfortable with.
(I’m not keen on the idea of virtual or phone consults to be honest. I can see myself avoiding that.)

Sorry we missed you !!!
we have lived in the rural outskirts of Kingston since 2009
it’s a large town but has pretty much everything you need (as do most Canadian small towns too)
we have nothing bad to say about the area
easy strike of Toronto and Ottawa
we would have offered a tour of the area had I seen the post before your visit
sorry it wasn’t what you hoped for

Actually we just did our mini tour/4 day recce of the area last week ! (I don’t know where the time went this summer, that this trip got so delayed)
Had dreary weather which was frustrating, given that it was apparently stonking back home in Quebec, but we still enjoyed the river views and the nice broad, treed, ‘proper’ high streets in the towns we visited.
(Thank you to everyone above who suggested places that we should check out. It enabled us to structure and focus our visit)
It was kinda nice to see the Union Jacks, tea shops and pubs everywhere too….(I’ve always felt reticent about acknowledging my Britness here, worrying they might still be anti British (?!), ha…..just how I felt, not having people to talk to about these things. So it was quite nice to be in a place that seemed to positively embrace the British heritage for a change….not that that is particularly important to me.
We covered a fair bit of ground and therefore didn’t spend much time in each place, but we got the general lay of the land and also spent some time talking to an estate agent in Brockville for some useful insight into the current market. She sends us listings, which is somewhat premature, but she's happy to show us around properties just so that we have a better feel for what might work for us, that is within our price range. (slim pickings at the moment, to be honest). She may be able to help in finding an interim rental also.
We are now in a better position to think around what a move to this particular area would mean for us. Generally we were pleasantly surprised and, although the landscape doesn't quite compare with our current surroundings, I think that should easily be made up for in other ways that are important to me now.
So we plan to return for another 4 days in mid October, possibly the week after Thanksgiving, depending on the weather. There are a handful of campsites still open at that time. One of them, Rideaux Acres is just outside Kingston, so we might see what that one is like.
If you are available and still inclined, we would love to at least meet up for coffee and a chat ?!
