Flying with dogs

Hey everyone,
Well it seems that the QM2 Kennel is fully booked for the rest of the year so we are going to have to consider putting our precious pooch on a plane. Has anyone flown their dogs over to Canada? Who did you fly with? How did the dog/s cope?

My wife flew with the dog on Air Canada from Heathrow to Edmonton. At that time they would only take live animals as cargo and it was very expensive.

Airpets provided the box which was waiting at the departure point (must have) and everyone arrived flustered at the destination.

Doggy was unhappy but OK and recovered quickly.

Overall, would not like to do it again.

We used "Airpets" in 2002 to fly our babies over- we have 2 English Cockers and they were fine.

Just make sure that your vet has dated all of your dogs inoculations correctly as ours had not nad it took us a bit longer t get our dogs through customs.

We used airpets last year for 3 dogs and they came 4 days after we did which by that time had moved into our house. Dogs travelled with no problems

Yes I flew my dog over to Canada in April, a 6yr old German shepherd. I dealt with a company in the UK called Pets Away and we flew on the same plane from Manchester to Calgary with Thomas Cook airline, and my dog was fine when I picked her up the other end, no problems at all. If you would like any more information please do not hesitate to contact me.

We took ours over and back a few years ago (Berlin - Heathrow - Calgary). She was fine.
Just booking to take the current two over now in August. Not sure what your route is but be aware that the 'excess baggage' (lol) option isn't available into Calgary during the summer months, you have to pay cargo... which makes about £1000 difference per pooch depending on size of mutt (fat in our case)... :frown:
This does give us the option of boarding them for a few days at this end and not having to deal with three kids and two dogs immediately on arrival though. Silver linings and all that...

I got the crate a few months before flying our dog, got him used to loud noises etc., he is not a nervous dog, but the whole thought of flying my dog stressed me out. He was stressed at the other end Man to Calgary, but is o.k. now. Make sure you photocopy all his documents before giving them to the handling agents as ours went missing & they wouldn't release him without them.

We used Air Canada absolutely no problems at all. $245CAD for each dog. They went on same flight as us, the staff were fantastic as they let us wait until 30 mins before boarding and took the dogs from us. They didn't want the dogs to get frightened in the baggage section with all noise. We were able to take the dogs outside until boarding time.
