Flights to Orlando...
 

Hello everyone,

I may ask some really random questions in the next few months/years so I thought I may as well start now...

Can anyone tell me whether any other airports in Canada do direct flights to Orlando other than Toronto?

As sad as it seems, our move will be based around liefstyle and here in the UK myself and childrens 'escape from reality' every 6 months is our trip to Disneyland Paris! I like to think of it as family therapy!

Therefore our move to Canada will hopefully involve lots of travelling around the USA but in particular a few trips to Florida, that have otherwise been unafordable in the UK would be nice every other year!

One imagines that prices for flights to Orlando (check out westjet and air canada for details) for a family would be massively more expensive than taking said family by car/train to Eurodisney. Travel within, and to and from, Canada ranges from expensive to eye-wateringly expensive depending upon where you live.

Several airline have direct flights to Orlando. Check the Westjet or AC websites for dates schedules etc.
Some locations only do seasonal i.e. Nov to Apr sort of thing.

You might find it cheaper to fly to Orlando from the UK than from Canada. Depending where in Canada you move to, you might want to look into Disneyland Anaheim.

People in Ontario who are obliged to go to Orlando typically drive to Buffalo or Detroit and fly from there. It's cheaper.

London, Ontario has direct flights via west jet from Nov to late April.

Thanks everyone, that's lots of things to consider. The quotes I was getting for a family of 5 (with transfers though - 7-9 hour flights) was around $2000(cant find these now though) depending on which airport I selected in Canada. In the UK we were looking at £4000 last time we looked which is around $6300!

We will have to live in one of the English speaking states due to my career so thinking BC, AB, SK, MB but our move is to start enjoying life and travelling rather than the big house, cars etc! So as silly as Disneyworld may seem, whilst the children are young its something that we would like to factor into our move.

Disneyland in Anaheim certainly looks fantastic for a visit or two however, its very similar to Disneyland Paris and as the children get older the option of multiple parks will be good.

Its not so much the price of the flight that concerns me, it just feels silly flying east before flying south and adding another 4 hours or so to the flight time! I thought there would be more demand.

First and foremost, Canada has Provinces and Territories, not states - and they are all 'English Speaking' with the exception of Quebec.

I would suggest narrowing down where you are likely to be able to find work first, then look into vacation areas - but bear in mind, in Canada the standard vacation allowance is 2 weeks per year, until you have worked for many years!

As to demand, Canada is a vast country with plenty going on, lots of attractions and 'theme' type parks - so most people either visit in Country or else go to warmer places (ie Caribbean) in the winter to get away from the cold. You will find that many retired people go down to Florida in the winter, so you may find it cheaper to look for flights down to there in the latter part of October.

Our daughter is working at Walt Disney World for the summer. She flew Vancouver to Denver and then Orlando and comes back via Chicago with United and it cost $650. We found that the price varied almost daily.

Thanks everyone for the info... I know it seems a silly question in the larger scheme of things however, just something we were thinking about.

I am trying to picture our lifestyle over there and what we could afford and how often. I am a nurse so I should be relatively ok at getting a job in the 4 provinces (sorry about saying states earlier - too much TV) that accept UK qualifications and therefore, we are after somewhere relatively quiet but within reach of a city if we so wish. We live in a village now and probably go to the nearest city shopping around 6 times a year. With 3 young children, it isn't something that's appealing at this stage. Crime, Education and House Prices will be the main focus but it would be lovely to jump on a plane for a weekend away or a family holiday. Therefore, I am presuming the larger the city the larger the choice of destination. I hope I am right. I just thought the demand for Orlando would have been greater. Ok, I understand that Canada will have some lovely attractions of which we will enjoy but Disneyworld seems to be 'THE' family destination if you can afford it in the UK.

To be honest, I am sure once we got there we would get bored after visiting a few times but it would be lovely to explore the whole of Florida, it seems such a pretty place.

Being a nurse from the UK doesn't mean it will be easy. All provinces require general trained, a lot will depend when you trained, with many international nurses including UK nurses having to complete some form of assessment resulting in further courses before being allowed to sit CRNE and with nurses taken off the skilled list and some provinces especially AB laying nurses off means will be hard finding employer willing to go the TWP route

Isn't the reality of being a newly emigrated nurse in Canada, a struggle to get a permanent position, starting part-time casual, all the crappy shifts until you build up the seniority to get full time/decent schedule. Plus being at the end of the queue for choosing vacation time such that those with more seniority will take all the available vacation during school holidays & you'll be left with two weeks in October when the kids are in school?

Yep and for some it is even the case of starting casual and then building up to part time then full time
