Fishing

Hi all
Dear hubby is a carp fisherman and was wondering what the carp fishing was like over there. If anyone can help we would be grateful.
Thanks Jo xx

Re: Fishing

Maybe I'm missing something big here, but why would anyone want to seek out a garbage species like carp, when you could fish for salmon (in BC) or trout in BC and Alberta? We also have other good species like walleye and pike.

By the way, that website should be :

Re: Fishing

You don't eat carp - carp fisherman just want to catch big fish and let them go again!
Don't ask me why - I fish for trout.

Re: Fishing

It would seem that there is a growing population of rough fish in the sloughs and slower rivers in the lower mainland, also a growing intrest in the oportunities to fish for them.
not my personal favorites but who cares if someone enjoys themselves.
thanxs ocean for the correction for Rod's Web site, still managed to post the screwed up version after editing??

If it's big fish they want to catch... they should see the plaster cast of a 14ft (?) long sturgeon at the Vancouver Aquarium that was caught in the Fraser River. If they saw one of those monsters on their line, they would crap there pants! :scared: ;)

"The largest authentic record of a white sturgeon is a 630 kilogram (kg) (1,387 pounds (lbs)) specimen taken from the Fraser River in British Columbia in 1897 (Scott and Crossman 1973). "

Read this for fun:

Carp are for sissies. ;)

Re: Fishing

I thnik he is interested in getting into other fish when we move over to Canada, but for the moment he is quite keen on carp fishing and has been for a few years. It`s qiute a big thing here, amongst fishermen, with the emphasis on big, and serious fishers go to france and fish the giant carp lakes for their holidays. They catch carp in the 50-70lbs over there, which sounds like a sprat compared to that sturgeon! I think he fancies having a go at that!
