What we need to do is bet a decent British Fish and Shop owner to emigrate to Canada and do things right.
There is one of the those in the community next to the one I used to live in. Canadians love it saying how great everything tastes. Brits come out of it complaining of how it is nothing like a British Fish and Chip Shop.

What a bizarre coincidence, I was just looking at the The British Chippy website.

We must have all synchronized our cravings.

http://auntieagsseafoodcafe.com They have signs saying they're a big award winner, but it seems a bit pricey so I've never gone in. In the pictures their chips don't look very big.... Upon checking the menu I see they have an all the cod you can eat offer for $15.50, a bit more than the C-Lovers deal but if I got in the right mood I'd try that... hmmmm. I have Bravetti 1.5L and 4L fryers and haven't had any trouble with them, and I make thick chips. Buying when Cdn Tire has them on sale saved 50%.

C-Lovers is a small-chain that does really good english-style chips and mushy peas - unsure if they have a location in the Okanagan though. Their battered mushrooms are great too. Being vegetarian the style of the chips is important to me, and these guys have nailed it in my opinion.

EDIT: Apparently there is one in Kelowna - http://c-lovers.com/locations/

- i've tried the british chippy in calgary - just overpriced fish & chips in my book - we started going to joeys urban in oakridge
good enough food, and cheap as chips

yes chip size is a problem , but is usually first eat out experience when back home (curry being 2nd)

Yes they've started me off too....there was always something about the smell of a warm waft of vinegar in the air on a frosty night walking home past a chip shop that will ever be quintessentially Britain.

If you get out to Vancouver, try Steveston's Daves Fish & Chips or Pajo's. One of them (I forget which) has the better fish, but the other has the mushy peas. Sadly, mushy peas are an English phenomenon. Canadians won't touch them with a 10 foot pole!

There are qute a few chippy's on the sea front in White Rock. These range from resturants that sell fish tempura and french fries (whio says we can't be pretentious SOF as well) to ones that sell street food wrapped in paper that look as though they should be the real deal.

Sadly, after extensive research, I have yet to find one that does English style chips. However, I'm not giving up yet.
