First driver's licence for long-term PR - paperwork

Sigh.

One of my (adult) sons just informed me he's finally going to apply for his DL, in Qc.

He also informs me he has lost/mislaid originals & copies of paperwork I handed over for his citizenship application (pending - I only learned that today - thought the deal was done). And his (expired) PR card. (No need to ask what I replied to all that - take it as given that my response is unprintable & unpublishable).

I've been googling relentlessly, without results, for a couple of days.

As I understand it, for a first - provisional - DL, one rocks up at the SAAQ, with I.D., & books/takes theory test. He has been told he needs to go to Montreal SAAQ centre & prove PR.

While I realise this is an unusual & very specific case, does anyone know if this is "routine", or if it's a case of random verification of immigration credentials?

Any thoughts?

1. If you read the SAAQ site, you would have found the following.

You must prove your identity before getting the licence:

If you have an identity card issued by the SAAQ, show only this piece of identification (it's the quickest way to prove your identity).
Show two pieces of identification, including one with photo, from among the following:
1st piece
If you were born in Québec:
the original of your birth certificate issued by the registrar of civil status (Directeur de l'état civil) after January 1, 1994 (a certificate of birth issued by a parish or by the Ministère de la Justice is not accepted);
a Canadian passport;
a Canadian Armed Forces identity card;
a Certificate of Indian Status.
If you were born elsewhere:
the original of a birth certificate issued by a Canadian province or territory (if you were born in Ontario, the Birth Certificate (short form) which corresponds to a short form Québec birth certificate);
a Canadian Citizenship Certificate with photo;
confirmation of permanent residence and a Permanent Resident Card;
other proof of legal presence in Canada.

Re: First driver's licence for long-term PR - paperwork

Thank you, PMM,

I didn't find that page, & am still looking for it.

He has "carte soleil" with photo, sin card, photocopy of (expired) PR card, photocopy of his COPR, original of my COPR (where he is listed by name), & my (very expired) passport on which he travelled when we originally landed. Also a few payslips, and a tax return.

I'm hoping this may be enough; also learning a lesson about letting (adult) offspring be independent ;).

Oh, he does have a learner licence issued by the SAAQ some years back, with photo. Am I right to assume this might help?

I googled PMM's response and found the page here - Learner’s Licence – Passenger Vehicle | Driver's Licence | SAAQ :)

Thank you! It's "interesting" to me/you/BE maybe, that I only got there via your link, & English googling.

(To clarify, I was googling in French. As I usually do when trying to deal with QC bureaucracy).

Vive le Quebec :(

Im assuming you will be giving him all the info required to obtain a driving licence and how to get copies of Immigration documents and that they will cost money.
Im pretty sure he's told you already several times he knows what he is doing and doesn't need your help prior to this :lol:
Here you go you are an adult here is the info on what to do who to contact etc let me know how it goes.
