First 3 months/medical coverage
 

Hi everyone. We did our landing at Vancouver in December to activate our PR and then returned back to the UK shortly after. We're now moving permanently in about 3 weeks so I am looking to sort out medical insurance, but I just wondered whether we could now get immediate coverage from BC since 'on paper' we've been PR since December? I am guessing it doesn't work that way, but then I don't know how they would look to verify the distinction between actually being there and having just 'landed'.

You are not a resident for MSP purposes until (among other things) you set up your home in BC. You will have the current + 2 months waiting period so will either have to risk it or buy private insurance.

Thank you for confirming what I thought! Onto Canadasure website....they seem to have the cheapest quote but conversely the best coverage!

Have a look at Emigration Travel Insurance | Emigration Policy - DUInsure - basic travel insurance until you get to Canada, then up to 3 months medical etc., insurance when you are here.

Not sure if this is relevant but i was literally just looking into this very same thing (we are moving glasgow to vancouver in 2weeks). However I've just found out that the company I'm going to work for is providing bridging insurance to cover the first 3 months. May be worth checking with your company ?

FWIW we used CanadaSure for the same reasons you specify. We didn't have to claim with them, but they have a good reputation so we went with them. It seems the vast majority have used them as well.

I land on 29 August, does that technically mean that I can be covered from October 1st?

From what I can see on the DUInsure website, if you are over 55 they don't want to know. Nice.

Thanks, though we are self-employed! Have a good trip over :-) I guess your life is looking a lot like ours at the moment....hectic!
