You might find this website handy, it lists all the different fire departments' recruitment pages.

http://www.firehall.com/recruitment_links.php

No idea who, if any, are recruiting but you could take a look at their websites.

:)

Edit: They also have a forum about recruitment: http://www.firehall.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=44

A lot of small communities (such as most communities in Nova Scotia, where flogger lives), have volunteer fire services. I suspect he wasn't actually being helpful after all.

Apologies if I'm wrong.

:o Half helpful i guess. Its worth knowing competition is strong here for paid positions. A friend of mine had to volunteer for 7 years after qualifying, before getting a wage. Its not uncommon for 19, 20 year old's to pass their exams and then decide to try and make a career out of the fire service. I know quite a few who have been applying throughout the country with no luck.

I agree. A friend of my eldest son was on many waiting lists in Ontario for 5+ years. Eventually he got into a force in (I think) Manitoba or possibly Alberta. Somewhere unpleasantly remote anyway.

Here in Winnipeg you have to pay for your own schooling (around $30,000 )with no promise of a job at the end.

You are trained for fire and paramedic.

The only starter jobs are out of town paramedics, so you start there and maybe in a year or five a job will open up in the City, no promises though.
