Finding a job in banking in Toronto

Hi all,

I am looking for a job in Commercial Banking. I am still based abroad but will be moving to Toronto area in February / March of 2016. I have full permanent residency.

I have been applying for jobs using my international number and as a result get limited feedback (not sure if this is the reason?).

Does anyone have any contacts that I could network with (i.e. recruiters, bank staff, etc.)?

Any help is much appreciated!

If you're not already, then I would join LinkedIn and connect with as many potential employers as you can. To be honest though, no one is going to really entertain your job application until you're here and can be interviewed in person.

The notice period in Canada is only two weeks, so employers are not (usually) willing to wait that long.

What do you mean by Commercial Banking? That's a wide ranging category.

What level would you be gong in at? Do you by any chance speak French? I worked for TD Insurance for 6 months (didn't enjoy) but I got the job there for the simple reason I spoke French and had a pulse!!!
International numbers won't do you any favours... You need to take the plunge and get over here!!!

Good luck!

Get yourself a local VoIP number and a mailbox at the UPS Store - then use their "street address" and "Apt #", or "Unit #" (instead of PO Box #), and it is extremely unlikely that anyone will notice that you don't actually live at that address. ..... You would however have to be prepared to come to Toronto at short notice for an interview.

I'm not sure a bank in Toronto can hire you with out meeting you.
