Find Jobs in Canada

Hey guys,

Fingers crossed to all who are waiting to hear. I have been here for almost 2 weeks now and life is great. Although still in holiday mode!

I just wanted to say that I am working as a recruiter out here and may be of some assistence to job seekers when you get here. I am working on positions in downtown and the Greater Toronto area. Our main area is recruiting recruiters. We also recuit within the HR, IT and Supply Chain fields. Anyone who has worked in that areas feel free to give me a message and we can chat. Hopefully I can help some of you. I know it made such a difference to me having someone to help. I flew out for interviews and had a job before I landed.

Again good luck to those who are waiting!

Thanks

John

P.S I have some contacts in Calgary and Vancouver as well (particularly for recruiter positions), but not my core market.

Hi Budda

How did you get into Canada so quick.

Me and my husband are Building Control Surveyors and looking for work in Vancouver. We have had SW application in since Feb 06 but have an Consultant working BC PNP.

Can you give us any pointers.

Thanks

KJM

Hi KJM,

Sorry. My long term girlfriend sponsored me through the family class program. I know skilled worked is very different, so not too sure how it all works. You have an awesome skillset though. I have 2 friends working in Vancouver as surveryors and are doing great. They are desperate for the skillset out there as well. Hope its works itself out quickly!

Your in the right place for advice. this site is amazing!

Budda

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Could you ask your friends who they work for and how they got their jobs as this would help me a great deal.

Hi
I was going to PM you but I can't do it because I haven't done 3 posts yet.
I have just spent the whole of August in Canada on a fact finding trip and now want to start the immigration process.
I am desperately trying to find out how to look for a job halfway around the world from the UK, it's not easy!
I am an IT manager, which is on the NOC list for Alberta.
Are you able to help in any way?
Thanks

Re: Find Jobs in Canada

Hi,

I guess its tough for me to say. Alberta is crying out for people. I would suggest finding out how to apply for the Visa. I am not an immigration specialist, so would not be the best person to help. You could come over on a 1 year bunac Visa and gain work whilst on that. Then get the employer to sponsor you.

In terms of the job hunt, it would be best when you have sorted your visa situation to begin looking. It would be almost impossible to get a job without a visa. and of course these visa things take time.

By IT manager do you mean internal to a company?

Thanks

John

Hi
Thanks for that.
I am an IT manager in a high school.
What is a BUNAC?
Cheers

www.bunac.org.

Its was started as a student website originally but they now do working Visa's as well. You can apply to get a one year working visa through them which allows you to work anywhere in that time.

Have a look to see if you qualify.

Gill,

Sorry, I dont work in that field. Let me have a think. I was saying to someone else. I am a great believer in getting a recruitment consultant to do your work for you. It makes them money so they will work hard for you. i will have a think of any agencies that you could contact. Whats your time frames in getting here?

Thanks

John

Re: Find Jobs in Canada

I'm only half way through my application so a while to go yet but nice to see someeone out there offering help so yeah contacts in Calgary would be nice some point later. I'm an IT guy working in websupport and develpoment - not sure what NOC list is by the way - but I dont think there is a great call for us out there. Having said that I'd love to change jobs but unless you go back to school for diploma or degree of some kind i'm stuck with it but i'll do a shift in Wall Marts if i have to just to get out there and change the lifestyle hopefully for the better!
