I am going insane trying to work out the financial implications of moving to Canada. I have recently married a Canadian, am waiting for my PR to be adjudicated and will be 60 later this year. Can anyone recommend anyone who would be able to advise on the following sorts of questions - just examples, not a full list! I think it will require at least working knowledge of the tax/pension situation in both Canada and the UK. I'd expect to pay for the advice!

1. I have a house in the UK currently rented out. What are the tax implications in the UK and Canada of letting it? Of selling it? Would I be better selling up and investing the money in Canada?
2. Should I (CAN I?) maintain some kind of residency in the UK once I have PR here?
3. I have ISAs in the UK. Once I have PR in Canada I assume I have to cash them in? Or pay tax in the UK?
4. Then there's the pension stuff... :eek:

Thanks Andrew - very helpful. And put the fear of God into me as I had no idea that I could be tax resident before getting pr. I wonder how many hundred more traps like that are lurking, of which I have no idea!!??

Yeah, who says tax is not taxing..........unbelievable that they you can be in Canada but can't apply for job, can't get health cover, but they can tax you :sneaky:

You just have to make sure you beat the system, before it creeps up and bites you in the ass later on down the line. Naivety is no excuse when questioned by a tax authority :frown:
