Default Filling in T1135 after leaving Canada

Hi all,

We left Canada in May 2016 after 7 great years, returning to the UK for family reasons.

We are now filling in our 2016 Canadian tax return and cannot work out if we need to file a T1135, as we were not in Canada at year end. We are aware of the T1161 for calculating the departure tax but this does not apply in our situation.
Does the T1135 only need to be filed if resident on 31st December? We cannot find anything specific on the CRA website.

Many thanks
P&L

You still need to file a T1135 if, at any time in the year, you were resident in Canada and owned specified foreign property with a cost of more than $100,000.

JonboyE - thanks, does this mean we report figures as of the date we left Canada, or as at 31st December? What 'to' date would be put against the question 'For what taxation year are you filing this form?'. Since this is getting complicated, we may need to pay a professional
