Favourite restaurants in Canada?
I only really know Toronto, so I will list my favourite ones
An Indian restaurant (I forget the name) located west of Dundas and Pacific - actually the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Rainforest Cafe - Yorkdale - but I tend to go a little later to avoid all the kids, but the food is definetely very good. It's not really a restaurant, but the fish and chips place in the Royal Bank Plaza foodcourt is great, the best fish and chips I have found here. |
There's a little vegetarian restuarant in the square in Victoria BC where the main concerts of their Jazz Fest are played. Been so long I can't remember the name but man is the food there ever good. And the lay-out is neat, an excellent buffet style main course with all sorts of exotic and well done vegetarian cooking done like I have never tasted anywhere else. They also serve 'chocolate cake' made with carob and other interesting dishes which are totally unique and very healthy.
Other favourite place there in Victoria was a little bar on Menzies street in James Bay. They serve perogies that are just awesome. Served with mushrooms and real bacon pieces grated cheese and sour cream they turn a normal, every day meal into something very well done. Now I use that recipe at home and the kids love it. Here in Sarnia my 2 favourite places are Paddy O Flaherties which does excellent irish cuisine--bowties which are either chicken curry, lamb stew or whatever wrapped up in a huge potatoe pancake--and I can never resist either their bread pudding or their treacle pudding--both out of this world. Then there is a little place (can't remember the name) out in Brights Grove which sells excellent seafood. Both places have live local entertainers and host a weekly jam/open stage session which highlights some of the local talent which is very pleasant to see. When I was down in Phoenix a little while ago, the boyfriend introduced me to a place in a mall called Habachi-San which isn't truly a restuarant--just a mall thingie--but boy is there chicken every good. Teryaki chicken and their honey chicken are both just awesome though there is way too much in a serving for me to eat in one sitting. (oopsie, thats not Canada--sorry). In Stratford there is a little restaurant in the square there that sells the closest thing I've seen to a cream tea with scones and jam. And up in the Port Elgin area there is a little 'drive in' type burger joint that makes the best burger I have ever tasted along with the best ice-cream. Maybe its because its so close to the beach and so we used to call in there after an evening swim on the way back to Paisley but boy, there burgers are just the absolute best. |
