Dear all

Although I am a newcommer to this group I understand that there are normally only specific family members who may be sponsored, ie, children under 19, parents, grandparents, etc..

My question is, what or who counts as an 'other family member'? Some web based and other, possibly now out of date information mentions 'other family member' in the Family Sponsored Class, where a family member in Canada has sponsored a relative but is entitled to sponsor one more.

My mother is keen to join her sister in Canada but for various reasons (mainly occupation and age - over 49) we think applying as a Skilled Independant Worker may not be the best practical method.

Any thoughts....?

The "other family member" means that a Canadian can sponsor one relative of any
relation if she is unmarried, has no eligible members of the Family Class available,
and has no close family members residing in Canada.

Do you have any suggestions for improving the chances of successful application for a 63yr old widow applying under the Skilled clasification?

Would popularity/unpopularity of landing destination also be a factor to ruin/improve a prospective applicants chances. There does seem, from what I have read on this group and other sources, to be a significant lottery element to the selection process.
