Extended vehicle warranty; is it worth it?

Our new Mazda has a "5-YEAR Powertrain Unlimited Mileage Warranty" provided I get it serviced on time.

There are mobile farm equipment mechanics but the cost is prohibitive if you just have one small tractor. I suppose we have an average number of vehicles; 2 cars, 1 truck, 1 tractor, 1 lawn tractor. if someone could come and do an annual service for all of them at once there might be a deal to be had to benefit both parties.

There's Ms. Gerchikov and there's Mr. dbd and then there's every other migrant to the country; lots of potential. He should stick a flyer on the board in the bar at Rainbow Ridge and see what comes his way.

So, we've just been over to visit the big-time car dealer up here, and got ourselves a Ford Ranger (2011, low mileage) for a decent price, but now we are being sold an extended warranty.
We've never owned a vehicle this big before, and quite concerned about the pot holes and other weather issues, does anyone have a view on whether these car warranties are really worth the money?
The dealer is offering his all-in package (4 years, 80k kms) for just under £3k with a $250 deductible each claim.
A quick look online and I found another one for $2k - no deductible.
Any views?

other side of the argument, I bought what turned out to be a lemon and I made my layout on the extended warranty within the first year.

See, I have a different view to all the naysayers. We leased a 2013 Ford Escape for three years, then bought it at the end of lease and we also bought an extended warranty for it for a further three years. Within six months, we needed both rear brake calipers replaced, plus parking brake linkage etc. This alone would have cost more than what we paid for the extended warranty. We bought a second Ford Escape in February, and may go the extended warranty route when the manufacturers warranty runs out.
Also, we bought an extended warranty for our Honda ST1300 motorcycle. This expires at Christmas 2017 (we bought the bike at Christmas with an end-of-year deal, and took delivery in April, and then got an extended warranty when the manufacturers expired) and have had coolant issues resolved under the extended warranty. It was in the shop for many days and we probably broke even comparing the extended warranty cost versus paying for the work to be done.
Extended warranties are insurance. You hope you never need it, but if you do, you are really grateful. A friend paid several thousands for his Subaru WRX engine to be rebuilt following timing belt issues. I bet he wishes that was under an extended warranty!

Did buy one for each of the bikes, covers wheel and tire damage too. If I sell a bike before the 7 years is up the balance can be cashed in. Did not get one for the car though.
The odds are in the favour of the warranty seller/insurer though. If they weren't, why would they bother selling extended warranties?
