Default Extended medical plan providers BC

Can anyone recommend any medical insurance providers for BC, new employer doesn't offer any medical.

Full dental is most important, although having full medical is always useful, my last employers medical was a pain to claim back so hopefully there are some better providers out there.

For dental I recommend the MountainHiker Insurance Co. Pay the premiums to yourself, save them, and use them to pay the bills. You are extremely unlikely to be better off using a commercial insurance company.

Most extended dental plans have very limited coverage for the first year. Major is generally excluded and it is limited to routine, the premiums are no cheaper though.

Ok thanks, I got everything sorted before I left my old job so hopefully I won't need anything for a while.

I agree with the above, just save some money towards dental care, its really a rip off private insurance route and coverage is crappy.

If it's a major concern, perhaps it might be worth looking for a job with good extended health and dental? Even then, coverage will vary from employer to employer, so it depends what work you need doing.

I have a decent plan and my routine stuff, wisdom teeth extractions etc. are covered 100%, but I have no coverage for work by a periodontist, so my gum grafts were out of pocket (remember that out of pocket expenses can often be claimed at tax time: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/taxe...oked-1.1144112 )

It's not a huge concern my last dental bill was $1400 but that included a crown and was fixing a problem which my UK dentist caused and shouldn't need any work doing for a few years now unless I lose a filling. I spend my summers climbing and downhill biking so there is always a possibility I will need something though (Dental/Physio) never hurt myself seriously yet but you never know what will happen.

diagnostic services, including x-rays and laboratory services, provided at approved diagnostic facilities, when ordered by a registered physician, midwife, podiatrist, dental surgeon or oral surgeon;

dental and oral surgery, when medically required to be performed in hospital
I suppose it would depend on the complexity of the damage and whether you would need a general anaesthetic to repair or replace them.
