Which Expo is best?
Hi guys,
We are interested in going to one of the 'let's move abroad' expos, we are specifically interested in moving to Canada or USA. We hope to gain more info on lifestyle, visa options, potential employers and hopefully make some contacts. Have seen two expos advertised, one with the Emigrate2 people (taking place in Coventry and Liverpool in Sept/Oct), the other one with something called Working in Canada Expo, taking place in Manchester in October. Currently there are no programmes of the day available on the website, although I would need to make sure I've seen one of this prior to booking. Has anybody visited either of the expos in previous years? Is there a clear favourite? Thanks, Ms Giraffe |

Re: Which Expo is best?
My partner got offered a job at an expo and 3 months later we were here :D i think it was an emigrate2 expo in Leeds. Obviously we found it great but other say that they are not worth it.

Hi we have been to the Emigrate2 shows mostly at Sandown, not sure how big the one is in Liverpool. We found them great got lots of info and made some great friends through the show. They cover more about emigrating, moving your stuff, real estate, and several provinces are represented for Canada. The Expo ones are more job related, don't know about them having not been myself.
HTH:) |
Re: Which Expo is best?
Just do a search of the forums and you'll find lots of less than favourable reports.
The only other thing I would say is that are you sure you would get able to get in to the US? I've no idea what you do, but the US is notorious as the most difficult country to get a visa for, very few have the specialist skills required. You certainly wouldn't get potential US employers at an expo, if you're good enough to get a US visa then you're usually headhunted. Hopefully you're a rocket scientist and would have no problem, but if not do check out the US forum (if you post then they'll give you an idea of your chances and likely visa). Just thinking that if you wouldn't qualify for the US anyway then you may be better off going to a Canada only expo for more specific information. :) |

Seriously though, you get to meet like minded people and get some questions answered. Sounds ok to me! :) |

Re: Which Expo is best?
Here is the link to the Opportunities Canada Expo - I am in no way endorsing it (haven't been to any expo), but somebody was asking for it:
http://www.expo-canada.com/ They do to other countries, too. Re: entry to the USA - sadly, I am not rocket scientist:rofl: Would hope to qualify through the DV lottery as my country is under-represented in the US (I am not a British national). I know it's a long shot, but I think, having never won a prize since My Little Pony at a charity raffle aged as a kid, surely I am due some good luck!!! Regards, Ms Giraffe |
Re: Which Expo is best?
We have been to a few, and we went with an open mind, we talked to every stand to do with Canada whether we planned to use their services or not, the more information you have the better your choice will be imho. If nothing else it's a day out, you may get a balloon:D and you have a day to truly focus on what you think you might do.

Re: Which Expo is best?
We found the Emigrate Shows at Sandown very useful when we were just starting out and completely green. Made a couple of useful contacts. 'Meet the Decision-makers' session with immigration officers interesting.
