Please provide me some pointers to exchange my hard earned US Dollars to CAD with the best rate..
I've got my US$ deposited in my TD Bank US Dollar account and TD Bank rate isn't really attractive.

That's a tossup for me. I am not sure I would exchange all of it. Remember that little more than 2 years ago the Canadian dollar was only worth about 62 cents U.S. Lately it has bounced between 85 and 88. I'd take a gamble on the recovery of the U.S. dollar over time, and leave some in U.S. funds, drawing out only when necessary.

You need to view it more as the U.S. currency rising. Canada has a very strong economy at the moment and lacks the huge debt of the U.S. and that helps to keep the currency up, but when there is an uptick in the U.S. currency it drags Canadian down. The whole issue has been one of a serious slide in the U.S. dollar. That is the only reason we have the exchange rate we have today.
With a change in congress, and hopefully in the White House in two years, you may see dramatic changes in budget spending and U.S. debt...even the suggestion of which can give the U.S. currency a boost at our expense. I believe there will come again a day when the Canadian dollar will be more like 70 cents U.S. But you never know
