Exchanging UK Licence ON

Hi,
So I've just spent most of the day trying to get some solid information with no luck! I've just got to canada on an IEC in the past few weeks and am in the process of trying to get a car. I know that I need to exchange my UK licence within 60 days and it will be allot eaiser to sort out insurence over here. However, when I exchange my UK licence, will that void and car insurence I currently have in the UK? I havn't been able to find out this information and mainly want to know so that I don't get stung my some sort of cancelation fee from my car insurer in the UK.

Apologies in advance if this is posted in the wrong place, any information anyone has about this would be much appreceated!

Yes.

You are now longer resident in the UK and once you exchange, you will no longer have a valid UK licence (as you have to hand over your UK licence to get an Ontarian one). Call your UK insurance company and cancel the insurance, you should get some of the annual premium back pro-rata'd.

Thanks! I thought this but wasn’t entirely sure, I’ll contact them tomorrow and can finally get this sorted!

what do you do when you move back home then? apply for the UK license again? Also, can you just keep your UK license if you're on the IEC programme and are still a UK citizen - staying for 1 year only? i'm assuming you wouldn't be able to drive out in canada then...

You reapply for your UK licence to be reinstated. Legally you cant keep your UK licence while in Canada as you are temporarily living here as a worker and not a visitor. You can certainly rent a car on a UK licence and drive in Canada.
