Exchange Rate

Re: Exchange Rate
Just as we started hoping that GBP was gaining some momentum against the CAD, the latter is already seemingly back on track (probably) thanks to NAFTA. Good news for some, not so good for other I guess.

I was planning to change a lot of money next week. Really hope the rate picks up

Re: Exchange Rate
After making several consecutive monthly transfers from the UK, I didn't need to do one at the beginning of April.
I want to do one again in the next few days, so naturally the £ is worth 10c less than it was

Re: Exchange Rate
More Bad news for people wanting to convert sterling into Canadian dollars....
Bank of England held interest rates at 0.5% and reduced growth in 2018 to 1.4% from 1.8%
Looks like the high for the year back in March 2018 at $1.84 is the best we will see, especially with oil heading north and looking like it will hit $80 in the second half of 2018.
Sterling price range $1.68-$1.90 now reduced to $1.62-$1.84 for 2018
Currently £1=$1.73

Re: Exchange Rate
We got 1.54 in 2011 so still better than when we came over!

Re: Exchange Rate
Transferwise has reduced the costs to convert EUR to CAD.
Old rate was 0.5% + €2
New rate is €0.50 + 0.4%
So if you send €10,000 , it was cost €40.34 instead of €49.75
Sterling had a mini bounce from 1.71 upto 1.77 this month, but it is sliding again
Current exchange is 1.74.

I need to move some GBP to CAD. Rate currently is 1.7 and wondering if the rate is likely to move to 1.8 any time soon ?

Re: Exchange Rate
The currency markets are sniffing their maybe a break through in Brexit negotiations this month, as the exchange rate has moved rapidly from 1.67 to 1.72 in the last few days. The currency pair has traded in a tight range for the last 12 months between 1.66 and 1.84. I am hoping to see 1.91 in 2019 and perhaps £1=$2 in 2020. The Bank of Canada are head of the curve with interest rates up to 3% in 2019. BoE will probably try to push interest rates up to 1.5% next year and keep rising by 0.25% every quarter, only reaching 3% by 2021.

Re: Exchange Rate
For this to happen there has to be a serious dip in the Canadian dollar. Last time we saw £1=$2 it was in late 2015 which was of course due to strong GBP (driven by the speculation of a 'Remain' vote) but was equally due to fall of the CAD (driven by the downturn in oil markets).
So do you anticipate something like that happening again?

Re: Exchange Rate
Cabinet agree Brexit proposal. PM says it is this deal, no deal or no Brexit. Could we be looking at a possibility that Brexit will never happen. Pound reacted positively.

Re: Exchange Rate
Its a sad thing to be looking at on Christmas Day, but the pound seems to be on a roll against the Canadian dollar. Can’t think why ...
Latest rate is 1.768.
A Happy Christmas to all!
