The end of crap TV?

The new DG of the BBC will announce this week as part of package to renew it's Royal Charter plans for 'Catch up TV'.
Anyone with a TV licence will be able to view any BBC programs shown during the past week via a broardband internet connection.
The question is will expats in Canada be able to buy a U.K. TV licence or will this only be of any use to U.K. residents?

You can get BBC Canada on digital here, and they have the cream of the crop, even for nondigital mortals like me, CBC has half an hour of BBC World TV and, East Enders, Coronation etc are already there. Will local BBC TV with local flavor has any appeal to expats who now live thousands of miles away? You tell us....

It,s a good question but I don't think I would feel watching BBC on my PC would warrant the licence fee. Maybe to feed the homesickness but I don't expect to miss the BBC too much. CBC still beats American telly and besides the best of BBC comes out on DVD pretty quickly.

If you have broardband,an ethernet connection or fast wireless connection( g or b ) will enable you to have ANY BBC programs (also soon all their archive stuff) on your TV WHEN you want (try the BBC radio channels).
As the BB speeds pick up,the quality of downloaded or real time material will improve no end.
This may not suit everyone but maybe £70/year for all the current BBC output will be worth it in Canada, also no adverts!

Sounds like an excellent deal to me. I do hope that it happens.

Channel Four are already doing a broadband service for some of their weekly content, this is good news from the Beeb.

It's fairly easy to wire a PC up to your telly anyways...

Cheers, Iain
