emloyers getting payed

Hi I was having a bit of a discussion with a work mate, he was under the impression that my employer got payed by the Canadian Goverment when I started work.
I know nothing about this, anyone know anything about this.

Thanks

Were you under a back to work program?

No I came over from the UK on a work permit then got PR etc later.
I came across that one about an employer getting payed if it was related to back to work programme.

Thanks

Sounds like one of those propoganda stories about immigrant workers.... like asylum seekers driving around in BMW's and stuff.

It's nonsense.

Employers don't get paid anything to hire anyone outside of the BTW programs.

Thanks for that, think it was a story put about as to why companys took on immigrants.
Sounds better than cant get local home grown employees to do the job so have to get immigrants into the country to help out.

Thanks

The benefit to the employer is that if you're on a work permit you are unlikely to quit or take another job because your work permit ties you to that employer.

There is a tax credit available for taking on apprentices.

That is something quite different to the OPs original question though. Employers don't get paid as in a cheque from the govt. and there are strict conditions as to which programs qualify and conditions that have to be met to qualify. Personally I don't see it as a major incentive to hire. There are also wage subsidy programs, around EI, again with strict controls.
