Mosquitos are common in most of North America.
Daisymoll mention not knowing you had bee bitten until some one told you that you are bleeding.
That was not a Mosquito. Unless you squash a Mosquito on your body, they don't leave blood. That could have been a Blackfly.

On the subject of insects, I am glad we have screens in our windows.
Unlike the UK where because of the lack of them I can remember the fight to keep houseflys and wasps out of the kitchen.
I can also remember the large spiders that ended up in the bath tub.
We rarely see spiders in our houses here because there isnt a constant supply of insects flying through open windows.

Oh YES...YES...YES....

definately not even going to consider not going home now. Had I known this, I would have come 20 years ago.....yippee....

:) The Grass Hoppers were a surprise but we knew about the Mozi's before our visit.

During our visit we looked at an acreage 20 minutes north of Saskatoon and part of a field was teaming with hoppers, not a problem for us as we don't intend to farm. I just walked thro' them, it was as if the ground was moving!!!

The Mozi's got me about 20 times during our month long visit although I believe some of the worst bites were actually horse fly's from when we stayed on a farm ( b+b ) near Saskatoon.

Hi there - we visited the US before coming here and are now kicking ourselves! We spent loads of money on flights and spent the whole 2 weeks vacation time looking around schools and houses and then due to various circumstances which I shan't go into just now ended up not moving to the specific area we had researched. We were supposed to get flights reimbursed by the company and never did and wish now 3 years later that we'd spent the time just lounging by the pool and enjoying life! Still, you can't win them all. I think a truly invaluable asset to being an immigrant is knowing a Brit who has already moved to the area who can give you ideas on where best to live, how to go about setting up bank accounts, where to shop, what the schools are like etc. etc. which is why this type of forum is a true godsend. Don't take any notice of what bosses tell you who are trying to get you over to work for them - they usually over exaggerate everything. A Brit. who's been there and done that will have a better idea of what you're about to go through. Having said that, despite the fact most of my friends and family think we're mad I wouldn't swap my life as an immigrant for anything:cool:
