Re: Emigrate show
Hi
I went to the one a few years ago in surrey....and it was OK. We actually found the details of our immigration lawyer there. The line to meet the canadian official was unbelieveable.....and to be honest she wasn't that helpful. It won't hurt to go along and have a look..... Pete |

Spend your time researching on the internet. It proved far more useful, and a lot less hassle. We gained nothing from our day out 2 years ago. |
Re: Emigrate show
We went to the york show yesterday and the best part of the day for us was wait for it................
The lovely quiet meal that we got on the way home with no kids :rofl: WOW been along time since we did that:p No honest, the show is filled with immagration consultants, you cant get into the talks without extra pass's that you have to pay extra for, there is a firm there that i wont name, but require £10 off you to look at your application form for assesment, they advise if you enquire at the office, then you'll pay £30  WHY would i want to pay someone to see if i have enough points to enter canada when the cic site offer it for free  Dont waste your time, drop the kids off at a friends/family and have a lovely day out :rofl: The shows are :curse::confused: no good |
Re: Emigrate show
Well - these sure seem to have gone downhill since my day!:(
We went to the Sandown one about 4 years ago - there were provincial reps there from most of the provinces. We visited the NB and AB ones specifically and got loads of good information from them. The talks from the government "officials" were free and they were available afterwards to give one on one info sessions (if you queued up - we didn't). There were at least 3 general job stalls and a few real estate agents and then quite a few stalls looking to recruit for specific types of jobs (I remember teaching, nursing and truckdriving). There were only 2 immigration consultants as far as I recall - because we actually wanted to use one at that point and were disappointed by the lack of choice. Oh well - I guess times change - and maybe the organisers too? Sorry you all had wasted journeys. |

Still, at least it got me googling for info when I got back and that's how I found this place. :) |

Just wanted to add my five penny worth to the discussion. We went to the Sandown event in 2005 and again in 2006. 2005 seemed much better with lots of choice of who to speak to. Yes you still had to pay for the seminars but they were quite informative. 2006 was a total waste of time as we knew most of the answers to the questions. We only really went to see if there were any companies looking for people to work for them. There were some jobs on the board, but nothing for us. To be totally honest, the guys and gals on this website can usually answer most questions and there is a wealth of info and experience here. Also all the Provinces and Territories have their own websites so it is fairly easy to research the different areas. I know that going to the Emigrate shows did make it feel as if we were trying to do something to help ourselves, but to be honest a lot of what we know has been found on the internet....it is such a useful tool. Good luck, you have plenty of time in a very long queue to do all the research and to maybe go to some places to feel what the area is like for real. Cheers Stef and Lins |
Re: Emigrate show
we're off to coventry on saturday and were hoping that there would be some provincial reps and such-like there, however, looking at the list of confirmed exhibitors, it looks mainly like immigration/consultancy firms, removals companies & foreign exchange!
we're unsure whether to pay the extra and go to the presentations, may just wait and pay (if we can) when we get there. fortunately it's only 40mins up the road for us and we don't have the bother of sorting out child-minders so it's not too much hassle for us, we might find it useful, we might not, but if we don't go we'll never know  List of Confirmed Exhibitors - Canada: ALBERTA IMMIGRATION.COM LTD ANGLO PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL BISHOPS MOVE GROUP CANADA MIGRATION BUREAU CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP & IMMIGRATION RESOURCE CENTRE CANADIAN RELOCATION SOLUTIONS CANILINK RELOCATION CANSTAFF CENTURY 21 THE PROFESSIONALS LTD CURRENCIES DIRECT (101) EXCESS INTERNATIONAL MOVERS HALO FINANCIAL HIFX **************** LINX BC, BC'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM MAYNARD KISCHER STOJICEVIC MONEYCORP PRAIRIE SKY INTERNATIONAL PSS INTERNATIONAL REMOVALS RELOCATION2BC ROBINSONS INTERNATIONAL REMOVALS ROCKYMOUNT INC./MAXWELL REALTY SPH CONSULTANCY UK 2 NOVA SCOTIA UK2CANADA WILLIS BRAZOLOT & CO XCHANGE BUSINESS |

I have been to Sandown a couple of times and because it was the start of my research. I am going to Coventry next week and I have paid the additional fee for the presentation passes to obtain more information to my burning questions. I will have to say i have learned more on this site in the last fortnight than any show or book I have read to date. My advice is to go and found out for yourself as everyone sees things differently. |
Re: Emigrate show
Hi
I went to the Emigration fair yesterday in York and found that it was a waste of time and effort. Went to one in 2004 at sandown park and it was huge loads of information and people to talk to was in there for most of the day - yesterday was in and out in about an hour and a half including the wandering into the OZ and NZ section. There was no information there that couldn't be found on the Internet or by applying plain common sense, lots of people trying to get a lot of money out of you for doing in my opinion very little. Everyone is looking for something different but to be honest the Canadian section was very sparse, nice people - but theres loads of nice people on here, maybe a few people should get a stall together and promote BE? |
Re: Emigrate show
There are two different times of the year for the shows. I think the one in spring is better with more useful people (incl provincial govt) attending. The autumn shows seem less attended by the important people.
Where abouts in Northants are you from Thundercat? |
Re: Emigrate show
The Emigrate shows this and next weekend are a little too far away for us - but we were briefly thinking about going just to ask which SW applications CHC is currently processing.
For those of you who went this weekend - Did the CHC mention which applications they are currently processing or where they think they will be at by the end of the year? Did anyone ask the question at the CHC stand? For those of you going next weekend - If you do manage to get an answer to this question, please don't leave us in suspense. :) |
Re: Emigrate show
We went yesterday and actually found it really interesting and helpful, and were really pleased we made the effort, to fly down from Scotland to go.
Yes there were a couple of firms there offering their services for a fee, but we just turned them down. ;) Hubby chatted to a chap from an employment agency which could prove fruitful, and we enjoyed the talk from the chap at the processing office, that was very interesting and informative. It was also nice for our 7 year old to see and talk to people about it as well, the only thing I would say is that the area for Canada was noticeably smaller than for other countries, ie Aus/NZ, but apart from that, we found it good. It all depends on what you are wanting to get from a show such as this as to whether you feel it is worth going to or not. :) |
