Can someone tell me how easy it is to work in Canada if you have electrical engineering experience in the U.K?

We all live in a Perry Groves world, a Perry Groves world, a Perry Groves world...............pretty easy but you'll need to get professional accreditation from the provincial board, be it APPEGA, APEGBC, etc.

What industry do you work in, do you have a degree?

I work in the railway industry, I have a degree in Electonics (long story).

Not a lot of rail work out here but there is a need for Electrical Engineers. Are you working for Network Rail or on the manufacturing side of things?

I was an Electrical Engineer in the UK with a degree in such, you dont need accreditation to work in the Electrical Engineering field here in ON (Im assuming other provinces are the same) but it will help and you will typically get more pay.

To practice as an Engineer in ON you either need to be a P Eng - shit load more exams and loads of study I cant be bothered with or work for a company that has a P Eng and they take responsibility for the work, not every engineer at a company will be P Eng accredited. For me its not worth the hassle. I found a very well paid job where they did not need the P Eng accreditation as I did with the job I had before this one, typically though with the P Eng in the GTA Id say your looking at a minumum starting salary of about 70/75k in my industry (Automation) compared to $65k without but again this is not typical of every company Ive come across.

Exactly what I said.........you cannot call yourself and Engineer in Canada unless you have a P Eng

I must have mis-read then as I didnt get that from your post but also as I mentioned its more complex than that, you dont actually need one to work in the Engineering field and also from what Ive researched and been told getting a P Eng isnt as simple and easy as paying a fee.

I know, I work for an Engineering company.......it all depends on your qualifications and experience. Also if you have a P Eng you career path can take you further here in Canada

I work for Network Rail. I "guess car is king" over there? :unsure:

I think my experience may be transferable, I have been talking to utility companies here about work too.

It would be transferable, but I would advise looking into getting a P Eng out here with the appropriate provincial body. You'll also have to take into account that you will be changing industries as well as countries and therefore it would more than likely be a sideways or even a backward career move initially.
