Which Electrical Appliances to take

Hi,

We're just having a think about which appliances we'd take with us. I'd be grateful to have your thoughts on:
- probably best to sell the European washer & drier as it would be expensive to run on a transformer
- but the washer drier is Miele and may cost a fortune to replace in Canada
- what are the better brands in Canada? We had Whirlpool stuff in the house when bought and that's just c**p (although think this is PhilipsWhirlpool - different to Canadian Whirlpool)
- where are the best places to buy electrical goods?
- thinking of taking all the small stuff that we don't use much (e.g. ice-cream maker, waffle maker) as it would be expensive to replace all.
- has anyone taken across a Nespresso machine? Is it working ok?
- how about TVs? Ours runs off a set-top box here, I imagine it's the same in Canada?

Thanks for the thoughts

The problem with TV's is not just the power requirements, but the signal is different. A European PAL TV signal has 600+ lines to make up the picture and a North American NTSC TV signal only has 400 and something, they are not compatible so unless your TV understand both formats its probably not worth taking, unless you want to hook it up to a UK DVD/VCR just to play your UK tapes and DVDs

If it is plasma or lcd (I think ) it is effectively a monitor and will work over here.

Similarly your UK dvd player (if it is relatively modern) can be easily hacked to play discs from bothUK and US/Canada.

This is not as painful as it sounds and usually involves pressing a cpde into the remote control.

If you want tell me what make and model it is and I can advise how to do it.
