So much for Harper and his "I want a new mandate".

F****ng idiot.:curse::curse::curse::curse::curse:

I generally agree, I am a bit fearful though that the Liberals may lose ground due to the carbon tax idea; a Harper majority government would be a frightening thing.

Never had any use for the BLOQ but I really do hope they will deny Harper a majority. Other than the island of Montreal and immediate environs the vote will go either to the Tories or to the Bloq. The Liberals don't figure into the equation.

I think there's a variety of opinion on this board, you for example, are way more conservative than I am, and yet everyone is scared of a Harper majority. Who then does vote for him?

Why the fear? How bad can it get? I ask as a complete neutral who has yet to get a real grasp for things political here.

Harper, early in his career, was far to the right of George W. Bush. The fear is that given a majority he could act on his instincts; invade countries, act against immigrants, dismantle socialised medicine, move toward more regressive taxation, generally follow a neo-con agenda. Think Thatcher squared.

Actually, the perfect term for him is un-Canadian.

Agreed. His policies and ideas on social issues scare me.

As far as the carbon tax goes, well all I can say is that the campbell govt initiated it a few months ago here in BC, will be interesting to see if the liberals are reelected here. It was unfortunate timing as it was put in place just at the time that gas was at its highest.

I cross the border weekly, live 5km from the border and buy my gas on the other side now, carbon tax free.

I cannot stand the BC liberals, but I also dislike the NDP so when I am allowed to vote in the future I dont think I will have anyone to vote for.

Harper doesn't bother me, better then the alternatives.

I will be voting Bloc. Not because I particularly want to but because I want to inflict some small damage on Harper. There is no point in voting Liberal. Dion is making an arse out of himself. His latest claim is that his English is so bad because of a hearing problem. I fail to see how that effects his ability to form a coherent sentence in English when speaking. He probably writes as badly as he speaks. His opponents will jump on that, I'm sure.
