If there is a job for you in any of the three cities, and you only take one of them - does that mean we can pimp out the other two job postings to our readers?

Right. Looks like the decision has been made for us!

Phone call with Canada over, and it's looking like they'd want him to be based in Calgary. So I'm off to have a good read and a think and a cup of tea.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts so far.

If you are going to be based in Calgary, I can highly recommend the areas around Strathcona and Christie Park.

Westside Rec is nearby, and a brand new High School will open next year. The LRT extension to downtown will be ready 2012 too.

Great family area.

There are no bad areas of Calgary. What you will like will depend upon personal preference. His salary will likely be higher in Calgary too. I am sure you will love it.

But seriously, it might be helpful to the OP if you explained the reasoning behind your choice.

As I said, I don't have a dog in this race.
Make that two...i had the chance and was actively encouraged to go to Vancouver to do the same job for the same money...but i chose Edmonton because i didnt want to live in Vancouver.

Where people end up is their own personal preference and im not going to blow any trumpets about Edmonton or anywhere else...it suits me for now thats all that matters.

If you dont mind me asking, what field of work does your hubby work in?

P.S. When you visit Calgary, make sure you visit Pete's Drive-In, the shakes and burgers are fantastic, but don't ask for a large fries (as they are v-large!)

D'you know, that should be a strapline on all expat websites

In fifteen years of marriage we've experienced everything from city life to life on a Scottish island with varations inbetween. What we learned is that it takes 18 months or more to feel settled somewhere, and people are pretty much the same everywhere, underneath.
