Default Easy question about school years

My son turns 7 in July this year, I can’t work out if he will be year 2 or 3 as I’m not sure at what point in the year enrolment starts from. Thank you.

There are all sorts of quirks and inconsistencies, so it's worth contacting the school board in the district you'll be moving to to double-check. But you have the rule-of-thumb correct: take the number of the birthday your child will celebrate/has celebrated this calendar year, and subtract 5 to find the grade he will start this September.

(I've just edited the Wiki article linked up-thread to clear up a couple of inconsistencies in terminology and to add in that rule-of-thumb for convenience...)

Find a house you like in an area you like and the school will fall into place, rather than finding a school and then searching for a house.

Schools are much of a muchness here - there's not the 'good school' 'bad school' 'oh have to get into the right school catchment area" like the UK.
