Is it the new Alberta? If it wasn't so busy and expensive, would the NSers have chosen Alberta as a non-BC/non-Ontario destination?

I most definately would not have! In my eyes Alberta just doesn't have the charm of Nova Scotia.

I fell in love with Nova Scotia, plain and simple!!!! :D.

I am still in the process of imigrating to NS. I do not know whether i will get there with the new rules being what they are, although i applied back in November 07 under SW route, so before these new rules came into affect.

My job is not high in demand (Medical Secretary), but i am good at it and if need be i will retrain and do something else....

The reason i chose Nova Scotia was because i have been there on tour a few times and just love the place and the people. Everyone is nice, friendly and laid back. I feel at home there and safe and peaceful and everytime i have been there and had to come home again, I feel like a part of me is left behind. I do not know if that sounds crazy but that is how i feel.

I have travelled over most of Canada from Newfoundland right across to Vancouver. I have travelled and lived in various places in the UK. I am not some young lass who wants to party and travel the world. I am in my mid thirties and have done the whole partying until the early hours, lived in some shady areas and had broken and bad relationships.

So as Homegrown said, i have been there, done that and bought the tee-shirt!!!!

I now feel ready to move on with my life and settle down. I am not looking for perfection. I do not think the "grass will be greener", I know it is going to be tough but i just want to live in a nice place with nice people and i believe NS is the place for me. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine.

Emmjay

Life is short, so if you have a dream go for it and this is my dream :p

Hi Amy David (my husband thinks that is your surname!!!)

We are checking out if carpentry is unionised in NS and I think it is....

Do you mind my asking what your OH does? We tried that number you supplied for that construction company but they advise they are not hiring at the moment.

I might be completely wrong, but my gut is telling me NS is where we should head for. My diploma will not be completed for another twelve months but my OH is considering work in Canada anyway as the economic downturn here starts to bite....not great here for residential construction and getting worse.....

If we were younger (& the kids were not of school age, like yours) we would up sticks too and take a chance, but my daughter starts high school in September. I don't know if we are deluding ourselves with the timescales, but we are seriously considering OH working in BC if necessary and leaving us here whilst I continue my studies etc. I don't want to uproot to a province I don't think realistically we could afford to live & settle long term. Particularly as my qualifications appear to be unrecognised in Canada per se, so no real major financial input from me in the short-term.

Our thinking is going along the lines that, OH might be able to expedite our PR by his working in BC on a WP, and as a family we move to NS when PR status is granted. Not ideal but don't want to wait five years or so, or head for a province we cannot afford to live long-term.

I am sure you will understand my dilemna. Why can't my numbers come up on the lottery?!!!!! ;)

p.s I like your photos by the way and the way you swap them around. Never know what to expect. ;)

My favourite is the boot on the floor.

Hi guys,
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone one how easy finance jobs are to get in NS.
I currently work for an investment house, in a client facing type of role.

Any ideas of companies I should calling to see if they'd be interested ?

Thanks

Hi - don't mean to hi-jack this thread either but I have a VERY strong feeling that you will be pointed in the direction of the WIKI and good old research and tons of googling. :)

However, I suspect, like us, you are perhaps hoping someone on the BE site has some of that info at hand already and you can 'cut to the chase'.

Wish you luck anyway. Have you checked out the PNP route for NS?

She came from Toronto and changed schools to be in Montreal. She just wasn't ready for a monoculture. Many emigrants from the UK do seem to want exactly that ,but one wonders about the wisdom of taking children to a place the parents know they're going to outgrow.

A good website for jobs in NS that covers finance roles is www.careerbeacon.com

Re: Is it easy to emigrate to NS....And Why Would you!

My understanding was (perhaps incorrectly) that the best way of being nominated was to get a job offer from a company willing to do an LMO.

My thinking is that I'd start trying to make contact with people, then organise a trip to NS, hopefully with a couple of interviews set up.

Maybe I'm niave :o

If you obtain a job offer, then you would be able to apply under the NS PNP SW route in conjunction with your perspective employer. This replaces the LMO process, as you would be gaining a nomination under the NS PNP programme, and would use their letter of nomination when you apply for a temp wp.

A possible option if you are specific to NS is the community identified stream that does not specifically require a job offer in hand, although lots of research, networking and liasion with an RDA will be needed for this route.

The LMO is required if you are looking to obtain a TWP for a job, which you could then convert to PR status if the employer is willing to make a permanant job offer to you.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Flogs.
To be honest I'd never heard of the community identified stream.
Will definately start having a look into this.

That said I think we'd be happier coming over to a job.

Plus, no job = no mortgage, which means no permanent place to live

The best advice I can give is to get over there on a recce and see what opportunities are available to you, after contacting potential employers from the UK by phone and email, it is feasible to get things set up before your trip.

Good Luck
