Im sure the lawyers will argue that point if it becomes necessary.
If not a citizen then yes he could be considered inadmissible.
I will comment no further as its yet to be dealt with and I know my posts on matters such as these tend to upset posters as they dont like me quoting legislation and regulations that affect entry into Canada or what CBSA officers can do if faced with such situations.
I'm also sure his lawyers will argue the point. It would create a huge precedent, though, so I'm equally sure the government lawyers will fight it tooth and nail. He did rather publicy take up a seat in the Lords, which would require him to not be a Canadian. His renunciation could be found to be presumed. Maybe. I'm not a judge.

Two reasons for having dual citizenship for me:

1) It's prudent to have the same citizenship as your kids - mine were born here.
2) I have two passports now so the odds of losing both at the same time are longer than losing the single one I had before.

Not sure how a passport can be seen as sexy but never mind. You have at least reminded me that my Brit one is due for renewal. It was on my to-do list (which I really should look at occasionally).

I do like the pomp of the British passports "Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State, requests and requires......". If I recall, the Canadian version is much lamer. "The Minister of Foreign Affairs thinks it would be awesome if......"

You should put "Look at "to do" list" on the list...

Requests in the name of Her Maj.... (Cdn version).

The back page is even lamer. If in trouble somewhere where Canada doesn't have a diplomatic presence, go see the Brits. You could go to the Aussies, too, but the passport doesn't say so.

If someone has signed the appropriate forms to renounce Canadian citizenship, then it will be very difficult to argue that such renunciation is legally null and void.

Others have renounced Canadian citizenship over the years, for various reasons.

Hi, and jeez Guys i only asked.......... Hi, i expect this has been asked before, is there any benifit of dual citizenship or is it best to just have Canadian Citizenship, i am in the process of paper filling in to emigrate to Canada from the UK, just wondered, as i have been told one is best or dual is best, thanks in advance..Alan............ i am being sponsored by my Canadian wife, and am in the process of filling in all the appropriate paperwork, the question was only posed out of curiosity, not wishing to jump the gun. i have or never had a criminal record, i hold full a uk passport, thanks for all the replies....Alan.

I listed the benefits from my perspective.

As far as I can tell there is no down side to dual citizenship.

Become a citizen of another country and then renounce your British citizenship.

So are you a UK citizen? If so, becoming a Canadian citizen is not a problem. You can be a citizen of both countries. I can't think of any advantage that would gained by renouncing UK citizenship after becoming a Canadian citizen.
