DSL & Mobile Contracts

Hey guys,

Can anyone who is already out there in Can-adia give me a heads up about DSL contracts and Mobile phone contracts.

I'm a geek, it's true and I need my internet connectivity. As an avid iPhone user too I do tend to be online all the time.

What is the cost of a decent contract out there? Do you have the same 3G data contracts that we have here too?

Thanks for any info!

J

Telus, Solo, Bell, Rogers, Fido, Koodo & Virgin are the cell phone operators, yes its 3G but I believe its a different system to the UK. The only provider that uses SIM cards is Rogers.

There are some DSL providers but most people seem to get their internet via their Cable providers...............which depends on where you are going to live.

DSL isn't as popular here, Cable is more popular - Cable is normally capped at 60GB per month too, if that's of interest to you....

For a decent DSL connection, you'd need to be downtown somewhere I suspect - www.teksavvy.ca has the best reputation and offers an uncapped service....

Fair enough, I'm an internet hussy. I'll take my connection wherever it's offered. Is cable usually pretty cheap?

Oh, and 60Gb is way above my usage. I just want fast and cheap. I don't actually hit that much bandwidth...

Cheap, comms and Canada don't exist in the same sentence unfortunately - looking at around $50 a month for a 10Mb cable connection with 60GB cap, maybe slightly less for a lower speed/cap, more for a faster connection/higher cap....

Does that depend where you are? We're looking to head to Vancouver...

I guess it's all because of the dispersed population... Is it or is it just whatever price they can get?

In Vancouver you can get cable (Shaw) or DSL (Telus).

Shaw costs between $33.54 and $104.16 a month (including taxes) depending on the speed you need. It is cheaper if you bundle it with TV or 'phone.

Telus ranges between $22.34 and $62.66 a month but you have to agree a minimum 12 month contract.

Both companies have introductory dicounts.
