Driving test on visitors visa
Can someone please advise whether it is possible to take driving lessons and test whilst here on a visitors visa, awaiting common law sponsorship pr. I know you cannot work or attend college, but can you take a driving test. I haven't been able to find the answer to this question and hope you good folks may know.

Re: Driving test on visitors visa
The answer may depend on your province.
There shouldn't be an issue in BC. They just need to have sufficient ID documents (and Canadian government issued ID is preferred). |
Re: Driving test on visitors visa
Thanks ESarge, the province would be Alberta, and Calgary in particular.

actually it is an issue in BC. the rule is that you can't hold a BC license unless you are legally resident in BC for a period of longer than 6 months with no gaps. this discounts visitors unless you get an extension. not sure about Alberta...

Not quite sure where you get this from. Most foreign licenses (i.e. UK) are only valid for 90 days, so under this scenario you'd be SOL for driving. New residents in BC must get a license within 90 days.

Can anyone tell me how long I can drive on my UK licence in Manitoba. I am here on a visitors visa for 6 months. Do I have to exchange my licence after the 90 days

Does not apply if you are a resident though, either PR or TWP. |
