Re: Driving in ontario?
Hi,
I am looking to swap my uk licence with Ontario, for a G2. I have read the link http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/E...eciprocal.aspx and the clause "...show acceptable proof of your previous licence status and driving experience". On a separate page I could see "...applicants are required to obtain written authentication of their foreign driving experience from the originating licensing agency..." To exchange a licence did you have to get a document from the DVLA? Thanks for any info. |

Re: Driving in ontario?
Hi
I don't think that is quite correct. You retain your licence entitlement and simply have to keep a note of your DL number and send in an application for a new photocard of your licence as the photo goes out of date after 10 years. Yes they do advise DVLA, but your UK one does not go out of date until its expiry date, so if you come back, you simply ask for another licence. Hope this makes sense, and that is my understanding. lol Stef ydo

I would imagine if you go back to the UK you should be able to exchange your Ontario drivers licence for a UK one. My understanding was that they (DVLA) will be contacted by the MTO an notified you have exchanged your UK licence, thus if you try the "I've lost my licence" deal, the DVLA might suspect you are telling porkies.
In regards to No Claims Bonus being used in Canada, I think it depends on the company. When I went for insurance via ING in 2003 they didn't give a stuff about my NCB at all. I had a letter from the insurance company stating my record with them in the UK, but it made no difference at all. Things may have changed now anyway. |
